Safeguarding
Leasowes High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people both within the school environment and outside. Because of our day-to-day contact with children and young people, education staff are particularly well placed to observe outward signs of abuse, changes in children’s behaviour or their failure to develop. We need, therefore to be alert to the possibility of abuse occurring, aware of the procedures to be followed if they have suspicions and have the confidence to follow those procedures. This policy applies to all staff, governors and volunteers working in the school.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Wills, Deputy Headteacher and the Deputy DSLs are Mrs McAleavy, Miss Papadopoullos and Ms Chetwynd. The governor who has oversight of safeguarding and child protection is Mrs Victoria Kelly. In the event of a concern or allegation against a member of staff please inform the Headteacher.
Within the curriculum, child protection and wider child safety issues will be addressed through as appropriate, especially in PSHCE, ICT, sex education and within form times and assemblies as appropriate. To ensure that up to date information and training is acted upon, small group and individual work may be undertaken in relationship abuse, child sexual exploitation, Forced marriage and FGM.
In the event of a concern about a child please share direct with the local safeguarding boards.
